Connection Opportunity post #41

Gridlock can be complicated to overcome. When we see something from a certain perspective, our values are often tied to our beliefs about that perspective. It's easy to develop a sense that our values are being challenged when someone else questions our point of view. This can create a standoff of opinions and perspectives.
When we reach this state, we have a choice, whether it's someone we love or someone we just met. We can either stand our ground and dig our heels in to prove a point, or we can approach with curiosity and use the opportunity to grow and learn with each other.
The choice to grow and learn is much easier said than done. But it is highly possible and quite rewarding when done successfully. Today's post provides prompt questions we can use when we find ourselves in a stalemate that tends to question our values. Try them, let us know what you experienced in the comments!
Family/Kids: What is your internal response when children question your authority as a parent or guardian? How is your response related to your sense of being right or wrong, rather than respected? Or is it tied to both? How would your response change if you approached them with curiosity?
Personal /Self: What does your inner voice say when questioning your values? What changes when those questions come from someone else? How would your response change if you approached it with curiosity?
Clients/students - Resistance is a natural part of change. How does resistance to those we support look different if you approach it with curiosity?
Work/professional— Conflict is normal in a work environment. What would change for you if differences of opinion were approached with curiosity rather than contempt?
Nature— The weather is a great teacher. It is intense yet unpredictable. How would approaching the nature of life with curiosity change your experience?
Community/online networks— In what ways would your community interactions change if, when conflict came up, you approached it with a general sense of wanting to know more, rather than making assumptions and avoiding it?
